The Networking Day 2019

As it is our custom, Networking Day is a special day that welcomes actuarial science freshers to ASSAUD. It’s a day that people have an opportunity to interact with each other and also giving students an opportunity to interact with Alumni sharing with them experience and views not only about Actuarial science but also with some other issues about life and opportunities in general. Father of Life Insurance - Elizur Wright

Elizur Wright (born on 12 February 1804), an American mathematician and abolitionist is described as the father of Life insurance as he campaigned that life insurance companies must keep reserves and provide surrender values. Elizur Wright (1883) Graduated from Yale university in 1826, he spent his early life being a Mathematics and Natural philosophy professor. Apart from his love for mathematics, he believed that slavery was immoral and ineffective and should immediately be abolished. Along with other like-minded individuals, Wright founded the American Anti-Slavery Society in 1833 with the aim of espousing immediate abolition of slavery. The organization later on began to fall apart due to ideological differences among members. Wright eventually became estranged from the abolitionist movement due to lack of support and became interested in life insurance as a mathematical study. AN OPEN LETTER FROM ASSAUD PRESIDENT

Our trip to Kenya  Hello guys, It is my hope that, all of you, have been doing well.  I am glad and thankful that we are back home safe, from the 7th Actuarial Convention and Innovation Challenge held at Strathmore University, Kenya. Our journey started on June, 9th in a group of 7 ASSAUD members and been there for 6 days, specifically for the event.  The event was successful, full of contents and inspiring. I wish, all of us could have attended the event because, It's something no one could have wish to miss it. But that shouldn't bother us, as I  believe that, to the best of our knowledge, we, who were able to participate in the event, can share what we were able to learn and experience, for the betterment of our profession in the country. I would like to encourage all of you to engage yourselves in product design, research papers and try to create solutions to various challenges that our industry face. ASSAUD GENERAL ELECTION: WINNERS AND THEIR POSITIONS

On 24th May 2019, ASSAUD conducted its general election for the 2019-2020 term. Students who felt capable for various positions applied and campaign on how they could be suitable for their upcoming posts. The candidates contested for seven positions covering different departments of ASSAUD. The election was conducted in a democratic manner with each member of the association casting a vote on one of the candidates. ASSAUD New EXCOM 2019/2020. One of the most interesting things that happened on the ASSAUD General election is this ballot paper from one of the members who is undoubtedly a die hard fan of Chrissmann who contested with Salvatore in the Presidential position. The paper read 'Chrissman asiposhinda najiua' that implies a fan will commit suicide if Chrissman lose. Today ASSAUD celebrate Union day through Actuarial bonanza. It hosted a football match between second year students and a combination of first and third years students. Othuman Chuji holding 4 fingers to troll 2nd years Before the game there were throw of words with each side claiming it's going to win. The end result witnessed a big shock to second years students after being stunned with 4-0 with boys from first and third year showing a solid and entertaining game. First goal came in just in the opening mins with one two passes between Chuji (Othman) and the unknown guy who put the ball into the net. A blunder made by second year goals keeper cost the team. Meja Sabi who was man of the match with 100% pass completion score two goals and played a great role in linking up the team during attacks. ACTUARIAL CAREER DAY 2019 CONCEPT NOTE.

INTRODUCTION    Actuarial day is an annual event which act as a platform for dialogue between Actuarial Science Students, Actuarial alumni, Insurance companies, Social Security schemes, financial services providers and other Risk management stakeholders. The companies and organizations attending will present on how actuarial services contribute to effective management and what job opportunities a holder of an Actuarial Science degree can expect to find with those companies.  Actuarial students will also have a chance to present to the risk management stakeholders on different products that will be prepared for the event day. The aim is to find a way to exploit the possible mutual benefits, in terms of career and employment, between Actuarial Science students and the Risk Management stakeholders.
