Actuarial Science Students Association of University of Dar es Salaam (ASSAUD) is an academic association established in November 2012 following the establishment of BSc. in Actuarial Sciences at University of Dar es Salaam in the academic year 2010/2011.
ASSAUD aims at bringing together Actuarial students, academic staffs and other interested stakeholders from outside the university to foster knowledge and promote the actuarial professional which is based on the evaluation of the financial, economic and business implications of future contingent events; by applying knowledge and skills in probability, statistics, mathematics and finance, actuaries provide commercial, financial and prudential advice on the management of assets and liabilities - especially where long term management and planning are critical factors.
Currently ASSAUD has 80 active members, who are all students of BSc. Actuarial Sciences at the University of Dar es Salaam. On its few years of its existence, it has been able to raise the awareness on Actuarial professional among its members and non-members within and out of the University. ASSAUD operates an alumni wing where current students pursuing BSc. in Actuarial Sciences, can meet and engage in discussions with graduates of Actuarial Sciences. The Association is working to promote the profession to students and the role of actuaries in the economy and is currently preparing Actuarial Career Day which will be an interaction platform among students, lecturers, and other stakeholders.
On May 2016, ASSAUD successfully opened an official dialog between actuarial science students in Tanzania and Kenya who come from different universities including; University of Nairobi, Maseno University, Moi University, Mount Kenya University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology, Kenyatta University, Strathmore University, Egerton University, and the University of Dar es Salaam.
