The department of mathematics runs one undergraduate degree programme (Bsc. In Actuarial Science), in collaboration with department of Finance under University of Dar es Salaam Business School (UDBS) and Department of Statistics under the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS).

In Tanzania, University Of Dar es Salaam have not yet been accredited exemptions from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) . In doing so, for an actuarial science student from UDSM to become an actuary, at fellowship level, h/she has to do a series of Actuarial Profession Exams.
The Exams are 15 in Number as highlighted below:
Category 01: Core Technical Exams- CT Subjects
This category Include 09 Exams as follows:
- CT 1 - Financial Mathematics
- CT 2 - Finance and Financial Reporting
- CT 3 - Probability and Mathematical Statistics
- CT 4 - Models
- CT 5 - Contingencies
- CT 6 - Statistical Methods
- CT 7 - Business Economics
- CT 8 - Financial Economics
- CT 9 - Business Awareness
Category 2: Core Application Subjects
There are 3 Core Application (CA) subjects in the IFoA proffesional Exams. An applicant need to pass or obtain exemptions from all the CA subjects.
- CA 1 - Actuarial Risk Management
- CA 2 - Model Documentation, Analysis and Reporting
- CA 3 - Communications
There are nine Specialist Technical (ST) subjects in the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' professional exams. Students need to pass or to be exempted from two of the ST subjects
- ST 0 - Alternative Specialist Technical
- ST 1 - Health and Care
- ST 2 - Life Insurance
- ST 4 - Pensions and other Benefits
- ST 5 - Finance and Investment A
- ST 6 - Finance and Investment B
- ST 7 - General Insurance: Reserving and Capital Modelling
- ST 8 - General Insurance: Pricing
- ST 9 - Enterprise Risk Management
There are seven Specialist Applications (SA) subjects in the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' professional exams. You need to pass one of the SA subjects; no exemptions are available
- SA 0 - Research Dissertation
- SA 1 - Health and Care
- SA 2 - Life Insurance
- SA 3 - General Insurance
- SA 4 - Pensions and Other Benefits
- SA 5 - Finance
- SA 6 - Investment
